Shiki Resort Prego Hayama

We barely got any sleep. Guests who came back after the 11 PM curfew kept moving between rooms, and the noise from the halls and rooms went on until about 2 AM. One group with poor manners was enough to make the night awful. Bring earplugs, maybe. There were only a few other parties staying that night, and the entrance was hard to spot. I drove past it, then had to go a long way before I could turn around. It's across from the art museum bus stop. We had a twin Western-style room, bigger than a typical business hotel room. The lighting was dim, the TV was small, and there was no clock. Wi-Fi worked. The fridge was the same small kind you get at business hotels, and we had to plug it in and adjust its water pressure ourselves after checking in. The unit bathroom was standard size. No disposable toothbrushes were provided, so bring or buy your own. Towels and yukata were there. Dinner was at 7 PM, breakfast between 7 and 8 AM, and both meals felt too small for me. You couldn't go out after 11 PM. I left with more bad memories than good, so the rating is low. Sorry.

The location made the price reasonable, and my room was roomier than I expected. Still, a few things bothered me. No one picked up the phone before the 4 PM check-in time, so making an unexpected call was impossible. I was also told I couldn't go out after 11 PM, which made me uneasy, and in the end I couldn't go out. There was even a fine for not bringing a carry-on bag inside. I'd never heard of that before. It was an unusual experience, and if you want a more traditional stay, I'd suggest paying a few thousand yen more for a hotel with a hot spring.

We had a lovely, quiet setting near the Hayama Imperial Villa and a yacht harbor. The food was delicious, and both the bath temperature and water pressure felt just right. It's reasonably priced and worked really well for a family trip.

The property used to be Prince Chichibu's villa and is now used as a Shiki Club recreation facility. Parking is available in front of the Museum of Modern Art, but there's no elevator. Shiki Club has many foreign staff. In the Japanese-style room, you spread out your own futon. Dinner included fish from near Hayama Fishing Port, and only breakfast was provided. I couldn't use the large public bath, if there is one. There are toothbrushes and razors, but they cost extra at reception. The room has yukata, haori, hangers, large and small towels, shampoo, body soap, a gargling cup, teacup, tea sticks, kettle, fridge without a freezer, slippers, TV, tissues, table, and hair dryer. There's a very nice notice at the entrance: people who pack their suitcases on the bed cause bed bugs and dust mites to multiply.
