Hikari Dai-ichi Hotel

It’s an older building, but it was kept clean and looked after carefully. Being near Hikari Station and a convenience store made the stay easy and comfortable. For the location and the price, I was very happy with the value.

The location was convenient, but I wouldn’t stay here again. I’d booked a double room, then was told they had prepared two single rooms instead and changed my request. The room wasn’t much different in size or otherwise from cheaper hotels, but it had a musty smell. There was mold in every corner, and the toilet seat sat crooked, so it was uncomfortable to use.

Lots of free services here, like you’d expect at a business hotel.

The best part was how close it is to the station. I stayed about 20 nights in a row for work, paying 5,000 yen a night. The hotel is old, the decor feels dated, and the rooms are a little small. They call it eco-friendly, but they don’t make the beds. If I’m not getting that service, shouldn’t the price be lower? Their basic idea seems different from mine. Breakfast was the same each day, so I got tired of it quickly, and it’s first come, first served. There are microwaved grilled rice balls, boiled eggs, and bread, half a slice plus the usual supermarket five-pack, all wrapped in plastic. On the first floor I put margarine, strawberry and blueberry jam, mayonnaise, coffee, orange juice, and water on a plate and took it upstairs to eat. The coffee gets sour over time. The front desk staff are nice, but sometimes nobody’s there, which is annoying.
