The place was spotless and really comfortable, and the futons were soft and fluffy. The older gentleman was lovely, always ready to help and quick to strike up a conversation. The drive up is steep and narrow, though manageable in clear weather. If there's any snow, you'll need good winter tires and all-wheel drive.

We stayed last summer and would happily come back. The owner was so kind, and the rooms were very clean. It's set in a lovely forest, though the road up to the hotel is narrow and steep.

Nishida-san made our stay in Bessho-onsen memorable. He was gentle and kind, found an onsen for me that I never would have discovered on my own, and even drove me and my family there in his car. Staying at a ryokan in the city is a lovely experience, but this one felt especially remarkable, right in the middle of the forest. The service was wonderful.

We spent three nights in a beautiful, almost magical setting, with nature all around and deer coming by in the mornings and evenings. The gentleman who looked after us was so kind and well meaning. An unforgettable stay!

A lovely, peaceful Japanese house to stay in, especially if you're after an authentic feel. The host was very kind. It's a little way from the station, but the walk there was nice.
