I had a small issue with my room at check-in, but the lovely front desk manager, Miho, sorted it out right away and moved me. Service was top-notch throughout, and the amenities are plentiful. After a long journey, the public bath and spa felt like a lifesaver. The hotel faces Hikone Castle, and the view is gorgeous. Get a room with a view; it's one of my favorite spots in all of Japan. Bring a cane before walking up to the castle if your legs aren't strong, because the route is treacherous. A wonderful place to spend a couple of nights enjoying the town's beauty and calm. I'd give it more than five stars.

The staff were kind and professional, the amenities clean, and the location made this one of my favorite places in Japan. From the hotel you can see the castle, and it's easy to get around the area. Hikone is a lovely little town. I'd happily stay again if I return to Japan, and recommend it to anyone visiting.

The pillow was unbelievable, I slept like a baby. The room, service, food, and onsen were all memorable too, especially with the castle view. Best stay ever!

A short walk gets you to Hikone Castle, and there's also a Catholic Church nearby. We thought the hotel was worth every dollar and would come back. The staff were polite and helpful from arrival through checkout, with service handled very professionally. Dinner was just as good as the rest: we had the special nine-course set, delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was fresh and very nice, and the hot spa was relaxing. They even provided free drinks from 5 to 10 p.m. It's a classic hotel with a very high level of service.

We picked this place at random to get away from Tokyo's bad weather on our way to Kyoto, and it became the highlight of our trip so far. If you're traveling internationally, book a night here. They'll hold your bags if you arrive early, and bikes are available to borrow for free. Ride along the moat to the castle and climb to the top, then head to the Lake Biwa beach for a swim. You won't regret either. If you're deciding, just do it.
