The view from this beautiful hotel by the sea was fantastic, but what really stood out was the service. On our second day, we walked to Kawachi and got caught in the rain without an umbrella. Mr Meng drove out to find us, eventually meeting us at the bus station and taking us to our next destination. We were so touched by his kindness. It was an unforgettable experience, and we're truly grateful.

The two days we spent at Kikka were remarkable, and I still wish we hadn't had to leave. The views changed beautifully throughout the day, and the simple décor had a quiet depth to it. The food was generous, beautifully presented, and so moving at times, while still feeling understated. Everyone on staff was hospitable and patient, and it was clear they cared deeply about their work. One moment showed that care so clearly. I told our waiter the sake was excellent and that we'd like to visit the local brewery the next day to buy a bottle or two. He mentioned it to the head chef, who realized the bottle we were drinking wasn't normally available in the brewery shop. Chef Noda called the distillery, apparently early in the morning before we left, and arranged for some bottles from the warehouse to be set aside for us. We only learned about it from the person serving breakfast the next day. We hadn't asked for this, and it was completely unnecessary, yet he did it for total strangers, annoying tourists, no less. The staff at Kikka showed the same thoughtfulness and pride in serving people that I felt throughout the stay. The scenery was serene, and the hotel and its staff left me with a wonderful impression of Japan and its people. As we were leaving, every staff member waited outside to wave goodbye. It was so sweet I could cry thinking about it now, and the memory of those two days will stay with me for a long time.

The rooms are spacious and clean, and the design throughout is lovely. It's a small hotel, but the meals were all excellent and the location worked well for exploring Hirado. I'd suggest staying three nights if you can, with one day for town and another to drive around the islands. At night we could hear the insects quite loudly through the walls. There were lots of different bugs outside our room, which added to the secluded, quiet feel. I also liked the spacious private sauna, though it was far too hot to use in summer. It's a peaceful, cosy escape from the cities, and I'd love to return. Follow me on IG @hanbyl for more Japan reviews ☺️

I loved relaxing on the day bed in our clean, generously sized room. The view was fantastic, and the food was delicious, which I believe was 100% local. The staff were super friendly, and the sauna with its terrace, view, and ice bath was my personal highlight. This is a place to slow down and enjoy nature. We spent two days here, but next time I'd stay three so I could explore more of the island. I'd highly recommend at least two nights.

The bay and islands look beautiful from the luxurious rooms, and the food is delicious. This lovely boutique hotel felt like a special experience, with staff who were genuinely warm and welcoming.
