Guest House Chara

The homemade breakfast and ramen dinners were amazing, and you could tell every meal was made with care. Guest House Chara is run by the kindest older couple, Fusao and Toshiko, whose hospitality made it feel like we were staying with family. Their home has so much warmth and history, with personal touches that make it feel loved and lived in. We spent three lovely days in Hirosaki, a charming, authentic town that still feels untouched by mass tourism. It was refreshing to explore somewhere with a slower pace and such a genuine culture. The guest house is also convenient, just a short walk from a supermarket and laundromat. That personal welcome made our trip special. Highly recommended if you’re after a meaningful experience off the beaten path in Japan.

The Japanese-style room had all the amenities, and the location was handy, near a coin laundry, convenience store, and supermarket in Hirosaki. It was a lovely experience staying in a Japanese home. The owners were kind and understood basic English. The wife was learning English and was happy to chat. Be sure to enjoy their Chara time and have some drinks!

Fusao and Toshiko have a beautiful home, and their kindness, hospitality, and genuine warmth made us feel at home straight away. We stayed in a cozy traditional Japanese-style room. Fusao picked us up at the train station when we arrived and later drove us to Hirosaki castle. His shuttle service between Hirosaki station and the castle was super convenient, since there isn’t much public transport in Hirosaki. Toshiko’s homemade soba is delicious, and she also makes a generous breakfast. The whole stay was stellar. Highly recommended, they deserve five stars. When we return to Hirosaki, we’ll definitely stay at Chara Guesthouse again. Thanks for everything!
