Hotel Intergate Hiroshima

We enjoyed happy hour high above Hiroshima, and it was nice to chat with other guests. Drinks and snacks were included in the price throughout the day and evening, and there was a good choice of food. The hotel was exceptionally clean and the staff were excellent. We didn’t get around to trying the communal baths, but the room shower was exceptional, with great pressure.

We had a superior double room that was roomy enough for a couple and two suitcases. Getting around was easy from the main street a short walk away, where you can catch trams to the key tourist sights, including Peace Park Memorial. Check-in was easy and service was great. What we hadn’t seen in the brochure was the lounge offering free snacks, wine, and cocktails, plus a great outdoor terrace on Level 14. The free drinks for a couple of hours each night and the 14th-floor outdoor patio with sunset views were a real treat. They also put out free soup at night, though I didn’t try it. The place is well located, about a 15-minute walk from atomic bomb dome. The rooms were a decent size and the hotel felt pretty new, with everything you’d want. I liked the bathroom and its deep tub, though the beds were a bit firm for me. There’s no coffee or machine in the room, so you have to go upstairs for coffee, but it’s free. One of the better hotels I’ve stayed at in Japan.

I probably won’t stay here again because of the booking problem. Their direct system made us book two rooms for our family, unless we wanted a suite. I was too tired to argue or find another place at the last minute, so I reluctantly agreed. For one or two people with a good deal, though, it’s an okay downtown option. The rooms were small but clean, there’s a nice onsen for guests, and the top-floor lobby has really good food and drink options through the day and great views. The location is central if you know how to use the tram system.
