WeBase Hiroshima - Hostel

Hontori shopping district and Hiroshima Peace Park are both under a 10-minute walk away. The rooms are roomy, and the heated toilet seats were the best we came across in Japan, even compared with pricey Ryokans. There’s an early-opening cafe downstairs that seems aimed more at tourists than locals. The one awkward thing was having the sink outside the room’s bathroom.

The front common area was useful when arriving early or leaving late, with coffee and food for sale, power outlets, toilets, and luggage storage with a lock. The location also made it easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Staff greeted me warmly and were happy to explain things. Everything was spotless, from the spacious, quiet dorm and comfortable beds to the bathrooms. I slept well, and reception lent me a little fan for airflow at night. The bed pod felt a bit cramped, but it was fine for two nights. People mostly kept to themselves; I met a few friendly guests, though there weren’t hostel activities, which I expected. A fantastic stay, and they clearly know how to keep the place clean.

For a short Hiroshima visit, this worked really well. I could walk to the tram and most central sights, and the hostel itself was the cleanest, nicest, most modern one I’ve stayed in. The staff were really nice too.

The only problem was the heat in the 3F rooms. You can’t set the AC below 22 Celsius (72F), and sharing the room with another person made sleeping hot and uncomfortable. Apart from that, everything about the Hostel & Staff was wonderful, 10/10.
