The meals were the part I kept thinking about after we left. We stayed for two days, and both dinner and breakfast were a pleasure: traditional, regional, fresh food, with homegrown rice and vegetables. The flavors opened our eyes to Japanese cooking. We're now at a four-star Japanese-style hotel, and even with its fancy eight-course dinner presentation, the food doesn't come close to the ingredients or taste we had at your house. It felt like being welcomed into the household and served what the owners might give their niece and nephew, like a childhood holiday at Grandma's. The onsen was lovely, and since the house wasn't too full while we were there, using it was no problem for us despite having tattoos. The owner and her family spoke the best English we heard on our trip to Japan. We visited at the end of October, so we didn't ski or snowboard; it was 17 to 25 °C, good weather for hiking. Thank you for such wonderful service and a heartwarming stay.

The hosts were so gracious that they picked us up from Togari-nozawa Onsen station when we arrived and took us back there when we left, free of charge. Kanoe made a perfect getaway for us, with separate natural onsen baths for men and women and delicious Japanese dinner and breakfast included each day. It was reasonably priced, and the ride to Tokyo by Shinkansen takes only a couple of hours from the main train station nearby. There isn't much English spoken, but enough to get by. I'd recommend it if you're after a quiet, relaxing stay or have activities planned in the area. Taxis need to be arranged privately and can be pricey.

The onsen is comfortably warm, and the water leaves your skin feeling soft. Meals were delicious, and everyone was welcoming. They put real effort into making the stay enjoyable. Highly recommend!

The rooms were comfortable, the onsen was nice, and the Wi-Fi worked better than in most cities. We also got a look around the vegetable garden. The owner and her family were helpful, very friendly, and spoke good English. It's a beautiful setting, though in summer it's full of insects and tree frogs. Highly recommended.

The forest view is peaceful, and everyone was so kind. The food is wonderful, really, you should try it. Staying here gives you a sense of what Japanese life is like.
