The view at the View Hotel is magnificent, and I really enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast. There’s also a great gift shop for friends and family. I’m looking forward to staying at the View again.

Good location, good service, and good food. I’ll stay here again next year.

The staff were incredibly kind, and the rooms were great!

The room was roomy and comfortable, and I could unwind in the small public bath by myself after check-in and again in the morning since there weren’t many guests. It seemed like people might be able to see into the bath from outside, though. This was my first trip to Iki Island, at the end of the year, and I booked a Japanese-Western room with two meals. The hotel was right across from Gonoura Ferry Terminal. We didn’t pay extra to upgrade dinner, but there was so much food we were nearly worn out from eating. It tasted okay. After bathing, we had some nice water from the water server. A few things were disappointing: I found a long hair stuck to the toilet lid when I opened it, and the public bath had only two hair dryers. With about five people bathing in the evening, we had to wait to dry our hair. There are also lots of stairs and no ramps, so this wouldn’t be a good choice for people with mobility difficulties. We had no problems ourselves and were very satisfied with the comfortable, relaxing stay.

The food was satisfying and thoughtfully made, with the ingredients and cooking taking center stage rather than any fuss. The menu matched the photo. We started with small dishes including pearl oysters pickled in sake lees and tosaka seaweed. Pearls are farmed here, and apparently the oysters are made from the adductor muscles left after pearl harvesting, so they’re considered auspicious in a way. The sashimi, especially amberjack and black porgy, was excellent. The fish was fresh and carefully handled, and the grilled seafood cooked in front of you over the hearth was just as good. Local turban shells, rock oysters, and kuruma prawns were all tasty, with the rock oysters particularly delicious. Portions were just right. The toshikoshi soba noodles and hot pot had a slightly sweet local flavor. There was also local sake, including barley shochu, to enjoy quietly with the meal. The building is clean inside and out, and the whole place looks nice. It’s very close to the port, just a one-minute shuttle ride away. You can choose a yukata on the lobby floor, which is a nice touch. Rooms are spacious, with port views, and the air conditioning was already on and comfortable when we arrived. It’s a typical Japanese-style room, but convenient, with a long table, another table, two chairs, and a desk. Cell reception may be weak depending on your carrier, though Wi-Fi is available, and I’ve attached the QR code. The public bath isn’t very big, but looks out over the ocean and is open from 5:30 AM until midnight. Free water and razors are provided, and towels come from the room. Good value for money. This inn doesn’t try to be flashy, but the quality is high.
