My wife warned me she'd booked a two-star hotel and that I shouldn't expect much. We were pleasantly surprised: the room was very clean, and both single beds were comfortable. Breakfast was decent, if nothing special, and for about $130AU I couldn't complain. We stayed the night before cycling the Shimanami Kaido. The hotel is around 150m from the train station. The front sign could be better, though it wasn't too hard to find, and reception is upstairs on the second floor. Three lovely ladies gave us a warm welcome. The hotel is a bit dated, but that didn't spoil the stay.

The room was impossible to sleep in. Motorcycles revved loudly outside well into the night, and with virtually no soundproofing I could hear everything. Other guests, especially foreign tourists, were also ridiculously loud in the hallways, their voices seeming to echo right into my room. That's a basic hospitality failure. The AC didn't work at all, and the refrigerator made so much noise that it kept me awake. The whole stay was a nightmare, and the place is a disaster. The descriptions calling it quiet or comfortable are a joke. If you want any chance of a peaceful night's rest, don't stay here. It was a total waste of money and one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. I would never recommend it.

The staff were fantastic and tried their best to help, even though my Japanese is very broken. The hotel is only minutes on foot from the JR station, and around a 15-minute walk from the port for ferries to the Seto islands. It's convenient if you're heading to other major Shikoku cities like Matsuyama, Takamatsu, or Kochi. The room was dated but had good equipment, including new fittings in the unit bath. They made up for what the room lacked with their service, though the bed was much too soft.

Breakfast was good and filling, with a choice of traditional Japanese or basic continental food. You can also relax in the large public bath if the small bathtub in your room feels cramped. The hotel is clean, friendly, and comfortable, with modern amenities and no problems. There are some amenities in each room, and more are available to pick up at reception if needed. Parking is available, but the spaces are a little tight, so you'll need to maneuver carefully or ask the staff for help.

Our first stay here was great, with very friendly staff and a restaurant that had good protection against germs spreading between guests and workers. Sadly, the second visit wasn't as nice. When the hotel is full, there may be nowhere to park. The two parking lots cost 500 yen overnight, but they were both full too. Free street parking is available outside from 8pm to 8am, so we had to drive around until 8.
