The food really stood out. The tai shabu shabu was great, and the grilled hamachi was top notch. Even the tofu cooker looked like something from a Gibili animation. I've stayed at plenty of Ryokan, but the local fish and seafood here were amazing. My room was the largest one, with a lovely sitting terrace and a private open air onsen. It was clean and updated, with a good set of amenities, and the view over the East Japan Sea was one of the best I've seen at an Onsen Ryokan. The public onsen is a little small, but still decent. There were cute origami pieces all around during my stay, and I believe there's an origami master in house. I visited the Ine Funeya before staying here. The funeya is pretty unique and worth a visit. The hotel is on the coast, about an 11-minute drive from Ine. Rooms have been renewed, the food and service were great, and I was impressed enough to highly recommend it.

The room didn't look like the website photos, and I was already disappointed to find there wasn't even a private shower. I paid ¥42,000 expecting a basic level of comfort and privacy, especially for a hotel listed as 4 stars on Google. Neither the Agoda listing nor the booking confirmation mentioned the missing shower. When I asked, the manager said ours was the only room in the hotel without one. There was no apology or offered fix. The only suggestion was to pay extra for a private onsen, which felt outrageous given the room price. I expected some complimentary solution, but got nothing. The manager brushed us off with, “You booked this type of room,” and didn't acknowledge the lack of transparency. It was a terrible experience, and the price made it feel completely unacceptable. I wouldn't stay here again, and I'd tell others to be very cautious booking. There are better places with honest listings and staff who care about guests.

The meals were beautifully judged, with plenty of great seafood. The onsen was excellent, and the location was amazing. They can collect you from the railway station by minibus. Highly recommended.

A good quiet place to get away while visiting Amanohashidate and the surrounding area. Don't come expecting lots of material luxury, but the meals were good and served in the usual Japanese way. I thought the onsen was great. The outdoor bath looks down over the coast, and the spring water feels quite different from most others along that coastline. It's slightly alkaline, completely natural, and my skin felt silky smooth as soon as I got in. Nice secluded spot for rest and relaxation.

Getting here took a lot of the day. From Tokyo Station it was a six hour train ride with many transfers, and even from Kyoto JR station the trip took 3.5 hours, including a local bus. The Ryokan is tucked away in a small town in Kyoto, a real hidden gem. I'd put the service and food at about four star level, and both were great. The onsen was okay, though I expected a little more.
