Sado Resort Hotel Azuma

The staff were kind and helpful, and our room was roomy and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the evening dance and saxophone performance. The garden was lovely, too, and stretching in the 7am yoga class with the ocean right in front of us was a treat. There’s also a nice public bath. We’d come back.

Dinner and breakfast were both very good, and the garden gave us a great sunset, weather permitting. There were a few evening group activities, including the light-up, which we liked. They didn’t pressure anyone to join in. The onsen was just okay, nothing particularly memorable, and the price felt a little high, so I’d have landed around 4.5 stars. They did make a mistake with my pickup, but I assumed it was an accident. I’d recommend staying here, especially with the meal plan.

The meals were the highlight for our family. We chose the 10,000-yen plan, and the multi-course dinners were full of carefully prepared dishes and premium ingredients. The anglerfish and pufferfish were standouts, cooked beautifully. We spent two nights at Hotel Sado Azuma, where we were greeted with warm tea and got to choose our own yukatas. Our room was spacious, spotless, and decorated in a traditional Japanese style with tatami flooring. The cliffs and ocean were right outside, and waking to the sound of the waves was unforgettable. The cliffside onsen was warm and peaceful, with the surf in the background. The staff were attentive and kind throughout. With the views and food, it was the best resort we’ve stayed at. We’d love to return to Hotel Sado Azuma.

We spent three nights here, and the local vegetables and seafood were superb. The menu changed each evening, so every meal brought another dish we loved. From our room we could see the ocean, and the garden had lovely places to sit and catch the sunset. The hotel also runs free morning yoga and a shuttle to the gold refinery illumination. The bath was average, and the rental bath didn’t offer anything special either. Sado island itself was wonderful, with its lava rock formations and beautiful coastline. We left very satisfied and would visit again.
