Futami Onsen Hotel Seikai

The room was dirty, and so was the ugly, dirty beach. We found the people unfriendly, and couldn't pay by credit card. The hotel was expensive, with breakfast and dinner included, and neither meal was good at all. This was the first thing that gave us a negative impression of Japan on either of our two holidays. I can't recommend it.

Our family had a very comfortable stay, and we'd definitely come back when we visit Ise next year. The hot springs overlooking the ocean and the calm atmosphere gave the place a special feel. Meals arrived hot, and the staff were attentive. We also ordered butter-grilled abalone and spiny lobster sashimi to try something truly Ise. Both were delicious, and it was nice to choose extra dishes to suit our tastes. I’d worried after reading reviews, but my own impression was quite different. People’s standards vary a lot, and this inn never claimed to have new facilities. It felt like a traditional inn that has been cared for. My husband works in construction and said rebuilding or renovating a building this size to today’s standards would cost hundreds of millions of yen. It clearly wouldn’t be simple. If you want newer, more luxurious facilities and service, there are luxury hotels and inns for twice the price. For what we spent at this price range, we were very satisfied.

The exterior looked nice, but inside felt old, and the hotel didn't seem very clean. I actually felt more comfortable at a Kyoto guesthouse where I paid 3,000 yen. The plan was around 32,000 yen, yet the quality felt closer to 8,000 yen. The food was poorly seasoned, and a buffet would've been better. I think the owner is probably in his 70s or 80s, and they should update the interior for a younger generation. Ah, a two-day, one-night vacation... 🥲
