The surprise birthday trip started with him telling me that morning, “We're going to Izu!” He'd kept the destination secret until then, and I was thrilled since I'd loved the area since childhood. We stopped at the glass studio after getting to Izukogen Station, then came to the inn. The man who welcomed me had such a warm smile, and the couple's calm presence made the place feel peaceful. The open-air bath and dinner helped me unwind completely. They brought us wine after dinner, maybe because I'd mentioned it was my birthday. What a lovely surprise. It went down so easily that we finished the bottle in no time. After a big meal, a soak in the warm bath, wine, and board games, the whole evening felt like a dream. The couple told me their son had approached them about starting the inn, and that they've been running it for around 20 years. They said Izu used to have many more places to stay, while accommodation options are now declining quickly. With so many restaurants and lodgings closing during COVID-19, I can only imagine how hard it was to keep going. I'm grateful they protected this special place, and that I got to enjoy such a lovely space. I heard that your father's eyesight has worsened in recent years, so your mother now takes care of things for you. She even drove me to the station when I left. Please both take care of yourselves.
