Southern Cross Resort

The location and views are beautiful, but it’s a bit hard to reach without a car. The rooms were clean, though dated and showing plenty of wear. The beds were large and comfortable. Staff at the hotel and reception were very friendly, but spoke only basic English. Breakfast is available, though I’d choose it for convenience and little else. The sento, which I don’t believe is an onsen, is a nice extra.

The onsen was a really nice treat, and the place is beautiful. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and robes are available if you want one. I didn’t eat at the restaurant, though that’s an option. There’s also candy, ramen, and soda for sale in the lobby. A heads-up if you’re walking or using public transportation: the hotel is at the top of a pretty big hill, so getting up there is a trek. Any store or restaurant outside the hotel means a long walk down and then back up.

It’s a hotel on a golf course, and golfers will enjoy it. I really liked the spa, especially the cedar bathtub in the guest room. The buffet breakfast has plenty of choices and makes a good start to a day of sightseeing. It’s also a nice place for an autumn walk.

The views are dramatic and beautiful, including the Fuji views from the hotel, and the course is fantastic. The hotel feels a bit aged, though they’ve been remodeling the rooms on the fourth floor, so make sure to book one there. The staff are wonderful and friendly, and the restaurant food is great. For the money and experience, it’s the best value and quality in the area. Bring a swimsuit if you want to use the pool. The onsen is great too.
