On my first trip to Japan, this was one of the best places I've had the honor of staying. The path down to the location has Spirited Away vibes. Everyone was polite and dressed well, and I didn't have to worry much about my luggage. I can't find enough words for the outstanding staff and service. There's English everywhere, though I'd recommend knowing some Japanese so you can speak respectfully with staff. We got a massage at night. Even though it was late, they called the massage place and arranged for two masseuses to come to our room. It was my first massage, and it was fantastic and comfortable. The private bath was better than at any other places we'd stayed during the trip, and the free amenities were spectacular, even mandarins! The driving service was amazing too. It was such a surprise to be greeted like royalty. Thank you for an amazing stay!

The private open-air bath and the open-air bath in our guest room both had lovely, relaxing hot water. The food was delicious and left us very satisfied. From the welcome through to seeing us off, we were treated with so much care and consideration, which we really appreciated. We stayed at Shizuka on January 3rd and 4th.

The place is a little hard to find, but the quiet, relaxing atmosphere and tasty food made for a lovely getaway. I was surprised to spot wild squirrels on the room terrace and in the open-air bath.

The room was nice, with a sofa, a roomy bed, comfortable pillows, and a good layout. Since it's in a separate building, we rarely ran into other guests. The service was courteous from arrival to departure, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The bath let me down. At night, the bathroom in the room was pitch black, and the lack of visibility along with the surrounding greenery made it feel enclosed. There was a small private open-air bath, but the view felt shallow. Maybe some thoughtful lighting would have helped. I don't feel I wasted my money, but I did leave thinking it could have been better.
