Ryusendo Onsen Hotel

The facilities were decent, and the staff were friendly to gaijin. At Y500 per person, the day bath felt a little expensive, though it was the only decent onsen area near Ryosendo cave. It didn’t seem too crowded, probably because of the price.

We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast, and the food was delicious. The staff were very accommodating even though we didn’t speak Japanese. The room was clean, and the location worked well for visiting the caves. We’d visit again.

The meals were magnificent, though a little pricey. Dinner was amazing, with seasonal dishes, and the sea urchin in ours really stood out. Breakfast is a buffet. It’s a lovely Japanese onsen hotel, but the toilets are shared and there’s no shower in the room, so you’ll need to use the onsen for bathing. There aren’t any Western-style rooms either, which means sleeping on futons on the floor.

I went just to use the onsen, and got lucky enough to have the place to myself while I soaked. The facilities were pretty standard, though the lobby looked really nice. Staff were friendly, and we got along smoothly even though I don’t speak Japanese.
