Fukinoyu

The food and service were both great, and the ryokan is a short distance from Hawaiians spa resort, with several conbinis nearby. The onsen was lovely for adults, though too hot for small kids. I'd happily recommend staying here.

I was disappointed again after calling the inn. There wasn't even an apology or explanation. I'm traveling as one adult woman with three children, including two preschool boys and a child in elementary school. Since the boys can't use the women's bath, I tried to book a plan with a private bath through the official website, but it returned an error. The inn told me the plan is for two or more adults, and that I could reserve it if I paid the adult rate for the children. Otherwise, the only bath we could use would be the one in our room. If I'm staying at a ryokan, I want to use the hot springs. A bath in the room doesn't make me feel I need to stay at a ryokan, and it makes me very sad that the children's gender leads to these restrictions. One in three couples divorce, and there are many single mothers. I sincerely hope they can make changes so everyone can enjoy the hot springs.

The woman preparing meals seemed to be doing it on her own, maybe because there weren't many guests. She was friendly and thoughtful, and made a point of chatting with us. The inn has the feel of a traditional place in a typical hot spring town. Nothing about the stay was disappointing, and I think it's a reasonable option if you're looking for a good price and service balance. It probably won't suit someone after luxury. The men's large bath and panoramic open-air bath are on separate floors, so the large bath may be quieter if you want fewer people. The women's baths seem to be on the same floor.
