The lounge was a highlight, with what felt like an unreal number of outlets. A real charging heaven. The outdoor bath is only for women, which disappointed my friend. The town view was lovely, though the baths themselves looked a bit out of place with their modern feel. From beginning to end, the stay felt more like a business hotel, which wasn't necessarily bad. Maybe the cheaper plan or the pandemic had something to do with it, but staff interactions felt distant, like they were just getting guests in and out. We had to make our own futons, which seemed odd for a ryokan like furutakiya, though that may also have been because of the plan or COVID. Thinking it over, the place was simply different from what I'd expected.

Those four months here, 15 years ago, were the worst of my life, and I still think about them regularly. I was supposed to stay with the hotel owners as one of my host families for an exchange student homestay, but they put me in a tiny broom closet instead of a proper room. No one checked on me. All I had was a tiny table, a 1L hot water heater, and a futon.

Good value, and there are some signs in English. The place is kid friendly. I liked the outdoor bath inside the bathroom on 6F, with stairs leading to it, and the women's-only outdoor bath on 9F was really nice too. There's no wifi outside the lobby area.

The 9 floor onsen was a comfortable way to relax after the day, and the Ango fish hotpot was awesome. You should try it in winter. We had a wonderful dinner and a good breakfast here, with warm, welcoming hospitality at the hotel.
