We stayed at Shuzenji Onsen Katsuragawa from 18-19 February to celebrate my sister's birthday on the 19th. Before the trip, I asked our travel agent if the hotel could arrange a surprise cake. I was willing to pay for it and any extra fees, but they said they couldn't provide that service. I understood and appreciated the clear reply. We were impressed as soon as we checked in. The facilities were wonderful, our room was comfortable, the amenities were complete, and everyone on staff was kind and welcoming. We especially enjoyed the onsen and amusement room. We had booked dinner and breakfast, and both meals were excellent. During dinner, a staff member asked whether anyone in our family had a birthday, then gave my sister a small paper bag with matcha powder. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and it touched us. Even though they couldn't arrange a cake, they still made her feel special. We're grateful for their kindness and hospitality, and will recommend the hotel to family and friends. Thank you for making the stay so memorable!

The buffet had lots of choices, including freshly made hot food, and the private onsens were a nice touch. Rooms and facilities were good, service was warm, and it felt like good value. It's a large hotel chain by Dormy Inn, and we love that the customer experience is consistently good across their hotels.

It's a big hotel with plenty of food options at the dinner buffet, including a soft-serve machine. They also serve noodles and ice cream late at night, then Yakult in the morning. The onsen has communal baths and seven private ones, all free, though you may need to queue when it's busy. The bamboo garden and Shuzenji Temple are within walking distance.

The other facilities were quite good, but the room was old and dusty, and the toilet smelled unpleasant. For around ¥20,000 per person, both the buffet dinner and breakfast were disappointing. The sushi was among the worst I've had at a Japanese hotel in this price range.

The seven private onsens were great. We never waited more than 10 minutes for one, and the buffet dinner and breakfast had a good variety. The free ramen at night was a bonus. Staff welcomed us as soon as we drove up, and the no-shoes policy kept the hotel super clean. We stayed with the family in early March for two nights. The place is a little dated, especially the kids' play area and toys, but our children still enjoyed them. All in all, a great stay, and the kids had a wonderful time.
