Hotel Kirara Resort Kanku

Check-in instructions from the female staff member were poor. We had to ask where the breakfast room was, and nobody explained how to turn on the lights. You walk into a pitch-black room and can’t find the Nakayaka. I used my phone light to look around and eventually found the room-light remote in front of the TV. In most hotels, there’s a switch on the wall near the entrance, but not here, so I really wish they’d explain it at check-in. The building is old, though free parking is nice. There were mostly foreign tourists who seemed to be from China on the day we visited.

The hotel refused to issue tax invoices, which I believe violates Japan’s Consumption Tax Act and put guests in a difficult financial position. The front desk manager flatly refused and falsely claimed, “Booking.com must provide it.”

The staff were pleasant, the beds comfortable, and the room a decent size. Toiletries included a toothbrush and toothpaste, which came in handy since I’d left mine at my previous accommodation. There was a sea view, though the highway was in sight, and the shuttle bus went to the nearest train station. The shower pressure could’ve been stronger. We chose this hotel hoping to reach Osaka Kansai airport easily by car, but hadn’t expected traffic to be so bad even in the late morning. Rinku town would’ve been a much better base, closer to the airport and with more interesting shopping. For the price we paid, it was still good value.
