The restaurant was a highlight, with French-style dishes made from local ingredients and put together really well. Our room was comfortable and lovely, and we were looked after by a very kind woman from the moment we arrived until we left. It was a relaxing, enjoyable stay.

Nipponia is a lovely old building, thoughtfully renovated into a restful place to stay, and it made visiting Izumo feel even more worthwhile. The azaleas were blooming in the garden, adding to the place's quiet charm. From the impressive matsu at the entrance to the warm welcome at check-in, the whole stay felt memorable. Highly recommended.

The meals were the part I keep thinking about. Dinner and breakfast were both a revelation, easily among the finest food we've had on our travels, and deserving of three Michelin stars in our view. We stayed on 15/9/2023 and were warmly welcomed by Adachi, who made us feel at home without effort. Our room, Suisho, felt like a private villa, with a calm, understated luxury. The house itself made it easy to settle into a peaceful stay. We left Nipponia grateful for the experience and already hoping to return to Japan to see what new dishes they create.

The room, renovated from an old hospital, blends modern touches with the character of the past. Staff were kind, attentive to the details, and thoughtful about every arrangement. The Japanese and French fusion food was distinctive, beautifully presented, and exquisite.

We came to Shimane for the first time, parent and child, and spent a very relaxing night. The service and food both left us very satisfied. Since nearby places to eat aren't open late or early, adding the two-meal plan worked well for us. Dinner was a colorful French course, delicious and just the right size, with hot dishes arriving at exactly the right time. The sake pairings were excellent too. Breakfast gave us a chance to try local Shimane cooking, and the clam miso soup was the best I've had. One of us is left-handed, and staff noticed right away and turned the breakfast chopsticks around, a small but lovely detail. We picked Akizuki because it seemed the most special, though it was the off-season and all the rooms were available when we booked. The renovated room stayed warm, and the heating and stoves worked well. The bathroom and other wet areas were spacious and clean. The upstairs bedroom has no windows because of the original storehouse layout, so it stays dark morning and night and might make it hard to wake up refreshed. Other rooms get plenty of light, so the choice depends on what you prefer and your age. Akizuki also has lots of stairs and steps, which may be difficult for older guests or anyone with weak legs. I loved the atmosphere and comfort overall. The coffee and tea in the room were tasty, and tea was served three times, after dinner, in the room, and at breakfast. Each one was different, so I didn't get tired of it. This stay became a memory from our trip. Thank you!
