The building used to be a ryokan, so the rooms are a little older, but they have a lovely retro Japanese feel. The owner gave us great ideas for the area, including a local sake brewery, a special tasting event nearby, and a great breakfast spot near Izumo Shrine the next morning. We also listened to music by local artists over dinner. The food was great, and the stay was easy and enjoyable. One day wasn’t enough, and I can’t wait to visit again.
I really liked the lounge and café, three doors down from the hostel. It’s a great place to hang out, with a good piano you can play and live music quite often. The hostel itself is nice too, with good facilities and a kitchen. The owner, Shiho, is an amazing person and has great advice about other hostels in Shimane. You should definitely visit if you’re after a friendlier, quieter, more original side of Japan.
A lovely, very clean Japanese-style hostel, and the owner was super friendly. She pointed me toward lots of good places around the neighborhood 😊
The food was delicious, and even the simple breakfast felt thoughtfully done. This place could be nice, though I’m not sure about the atmosphere.
It’s an old house with just one bathroom. The toilets were dirty most of the time, but the staff were friendly.
