Izumo Green Hotel Morris

There’s no ocean view, but the extras here are wild for a business hotel. In the evening, the second floor serves unlimited ramen from 6:30 to 10:00, with both miso ramen and salt ramen. There’s a welcome drink bar downstairs and another coffee and tea bar upstairs, plus more than 700 comics, pillows to borrow, kids’ pillows and slippers, and a spa. Breakfast was huge, with better food than I expected at this kind of hotel. I was still full at 7 pm. All that came at a surprisingly affordable price. The service, cleanliness, and location were world class, and this went beyond my personal six-star expectations. I’d absolutely return and recommend it.

The rooms were spacious and breakfast was fantastic. They also put out free tea, coffee, and snacks in the lobby in the afternoon, and served free ramen upstairs in the evening. There’s a lovely library, free laundry, and a public bath at no extra charge. It was a fantastic stay, and I’ll look for this hotel company in other Japanese cities.

The room was spacious, with good modern amenities, and service was good. The public bath was fine, even though it isn’t a hot spring. The hotel is only a one- or two-minute walk from the station, and cost 8,500 JPY on a weekend in holiday season. For the airport bus, use stop 3 across from the terminal. You can get there by cutting through the station, even though Google Maps tries to route you around by road. My main reason for giving only three stars was the food. Breakfast was just 660 JPY, but the dishes were all cold, hard, and poor quality, despite there being plenty of variety. The free late-night ramen didn’t taste good either, and didn’t seem worth trying. The staff serving it weren’t friendly. I watched one employee complain to a customer who returned the ramen box that it should have been left in their room. It was irritating to hear and see. The food really needs to improve.

I’d happily spend hours in the onsen: it has a jacuzzi, cold water, plenty of little towels at no charge, and a full-body massage chair you can use for free. The room was roomy and looked out over Izumoshi Station. Extra pillows are set out just past the elevator. Coffee and ramen are complimentary, and the buffet breakfast for JPY580 was good.
