Sanyo-so

The people serving breakfast and dinner made a lovely stay even better. Lee and Miku were so friendly and professional, and explained the menus really smoothly. Thanks to both of them for the warm hospitality! This historic estate is stunning. The 1929 architecture and huge gardens are breathtaking and so well preserved. Highly recommend.

The kaiseki was beautiful to look at, and every dish showed how careful the chefs were. My favorites were the melted cod with yuzu, lily bulb tofu, and the wonderful breakfast bento. The restaurant was arranged so it felt like private dining, which made the meals even more special. Sanyo-so is a peaceful sanctuary, a place to reconnect with nature and yourself, and to experience a kind of cultural history that seems to have disappeared elsewhere. The ryokan and its story have been kept with real care over time. The staff are wonderful, and their respect for their work and for looking after the ryokan really shows. My room felt like a private home, with lots of space, a welcoming private garden and onsen, and a sense of calm throughout. The Japanese garden was one of the most beautiful I've ever had the privilege to wander through. I'll remember this stay for the rest of my life.

Getting engaged in the beautiful Japanese zen garden was one of the best experiences of our lives, and we're already looking forward to coming back. The staff were so kind, supportive, and thoughtful, and made us feel special throughout. They were accommodating at dinner and breakfast and during our massages, and seemed to anticipate what we might need. We couldn't have asked for a better stay.

We rented a room with its own Onsen. It's a lovely little traditional-style Japanese hotel, with a beautiful garden to walk around, enjoy nature, and see the koi ponds.
