Hotel Kikyou

A charming place, and it was very quiet when I visited in May. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the people there are very helpful.

We stayed in a suite, and it was lovely. The food and service were wonderful too. It made for a really good trip.

I took a solo cycling trip in fall 2025 and stayed in the "HIKARI" Suite with Open-Air Bath and Dining Room. It felt less like a suite and more like a condo, with a calm modern Japanese design, a comfortable sofa, and a dining area. The whole floor was mine, with no other guests coming and going. I could take my time in the spacious bathroom and semi-open-air bath without worrying about anyone else. The standout was the food. Dinner was cooked right in front of me in my own kitchen/dining room on the same floor, and served hot. The dishes were beautifully presented, delicately seasoned, and made with generous amounts of seasonal ingredients. There was a lot of variety, and each dish brought out the ingredients well. It really lived up to the inn’s reputation for its cuisine. Breakfast was simple but carefully prepared, healthy and filling. The morning rice, cooked in the hearth, was among the top three I’ve ever had. The night before, I’d been talking with Ita about how rice cooked over a strong flame is the ultimate breakfast treat. The staff were calm and polite, with a comfortable balance of warmth and personal space. Their attention to detail showed throughout my stay. Between the comfortable room, luxurious hot springs, and especially the impressive food, everything felt top-notch. It was a luxurious inn for adults, and I’d gladly return to Yamashiro just to stay in "HIKARI" again.
