Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Nagayama

We really enjoyed the hot spring, including the relaxing outdoor bath, and the buffet for dinner and breakfast was very good. Our room was clean and quiet, with a nice ocean view through its wide window. The staff were polite and kind, and the service was very good. The one thing I didn't like was that Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, not in the room. Also, the humidifier whistled noisily, and its filter needed cleaning.

The lake-side rooms have a nice view, and you can watch the Japanese air force practice manoeuvres in their jets. I imagine the mountain range looks lovely from the other side, too. There are three baths, a sauna, and the usual number of wash stations. The appeal here is really the all-inclusive onsen and meals in a traditional tatami room, the kind of stay Japanese guests seem to love. It's nice, but just OK for me, not great. Crab is the big buffet item, and you can have as much as you like. The rest of the food is buffet fare, so it isn't the best, but there's nothing wrong with it. It was busy at meal service, even though we weren't there on a weekend, so the place seems popular. Would I come again? Sure.

The buffet meals were delicious, with plenty of food and drinks to choose from. It feels clearly set up for families, with entertainment like doll vending machines, and I'd definitely try other hotels from the same brand in the future. It's a nice place for a hot spring visit, especially if you're driving. The only downside for us was that construction meant we couldn't see the lake from the hot spring.

We were told the shuttle would wait for us when we called a few days before our train arrived at 14h45. They said one left around 14h40-45 and that we could take it. But at 14h44, after we arrived, they called to say some clients wanted to leave earlier, so they couldn't wait. The next shuttle wasn't until 15h45, and we had to wait at the station. They didn't offer any gesture to make up for it. We'd also paid extra when booking for crab at the buffet, only to find out crab was included for everyone. We paid the supplement for nothing. The service was very disappointing and didn't feel trustworthy. I wouldn't recommend the hotel if you're hoping for a nice experience.
