Mommy and I loved sleeping on the floor in the traditional Japanese rooms. The Gaijin weren't as keen, they missed having Western beds. The display in the lobby reminded me of one I was given as a baby.

The onsen was great, and the service was excellent. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The hotel is older, but it still has plenty of charm.

The room WiFi was really poor, though it worked acceptably in the lobby and dining area. The location was convenient, just a short walk from the shopping street. Parking in front is very limited, but the hotel's valet service was much appreciated. We had half board: dinner was a high-quality traditional Japanese meal, while breakfast had limited choices but was enough. The onsen was good and had all the necessities. Staff were attentive and polite.

The restaurant serves wonderful teishoku, or set meals, and the front desk kindly called us a cab on checkout morning. The port is very close if you're heading to Yakushima, and the ride from the hotel took only a few minutes. A very nice hotel, though a bit dated.

I had a Japanese-style room. The small, hard pillows are filled with beads, so if you're not used to them, bring your own. The wooden tub wasn't for me, mostly because of my concerns about hygiene. I wasn't sure how clean the wood could get, and it never seemed to dry properly.
