Hostel Yuigahama & Soba Bar

The location worked really well, roughly halfway between the station and the beach. Kamakura is a beautiful place for sightseeing, so it's worth adding to your list. The staff were friendly, spoke English very well, and gave us a helpful tour that made us feel at ease. Downstairs, the dorm room has eight single beds, four lower and four bunk beds, set into private spaces in the wall with curtains, a bit like a capsule hotel. Upstairs there are fully private rooms with double beds, better suited to couples. I didn't get to try the food downstairs because the people I was with weren't interested, sigh.

The dorm was small, but there was enough room to sleep well. The bathroom felt a little odd, though it was okay. Breakfast was the best part, but it costs extra, around 950 yen.

There are several kinds of Sake lined up at the counter, worth a look. This soba place is on the ground floor of a small hostel. The noodles are very firm and rustic, which may surprise anyone expecting more typical soba. That's part of the shop master's Yamagata roots.

I slept well in the dorm bed, and the air conditioning was working. The staff were friendly, and the Meat Soba was delicious.
