I visited for the first time on a certain day in March 2026. The room, service, and food were all wonderful. The staff were very kind and gave thorough, attentive explanations. They even drove us to nearby tourist spots.

The dinner was amazing. Each dish had a memorable story, and the atmosphere was so good. Worth a visit if you’re near Kamakura.

The staff made a huge impression on us. They were polite, sincere, and caring, always ready to help with even small problems. Their personal attention felt different from other hotels we’ve stayed at, and their smiles and warm manner made us feel safe and welcome from the moment we arrived. The service deserves five stars. The food was another highlight. The Italian-Japanese cooking was carefully put together, and the chef was kind. We had a wonderful meal. Sitting at the bar table lets you watch the chef cook right in front of you. Despite the name, it felt private, just a counter facing the kitchen in a secluded room. Our favorite was “Truffle,” homemade pasta and truffles in a clear chicken and beef flavored soup. With several cups of Italian wine, it made our taste buds dance. I wouldn’t say it’s the best food in Japan, but it’s definitely worth a try. Kamakura Cocon is a 170 year old Edo period house, reached by a lovely stone path lined with elegant traditional Japanese trees. The building has survived for 170 years and has been renovated in places. Its decorations and interior are exquisite, with modern touches against the traditional home that reflect Japan’s social development. Some people may find the crossroads on the way confusing, but the slightly remote, quiet neighborhood added to the relaxing feel and suited a peaceful, simple holiday. We had a splendid time at the Kamakura Cocon hotel. It’s a sure recommendation if you’re going anywhere nearby.

We first came to Cocon for our wedding in 2023, had an amazing time, and returned for three nights in September 2024. The staff were wonderful, and we already miss Hiroshi-san, Maki-san, and everyone there. We’d love to visit again. There’s a fluent English speaker on staff, and the others speak English to an admirable level, even those who say they can’t. We’d consider them friends. Our room was beautiful and large. Upstairs, the bedroom had two beds and a TV, overlooking the main room. There was also a living room with sofas, a table, and a DVD player, plus a big tatami room with a table for Japanese-style lounging. The fridge was stocked and replenished each day, as was the coffee, and everything we wanted was provided. The spacious bathroom had an adjoining shower room and a hot tub bath overlooking the garden. There was also a little toilet room with a luxurious sink by the entrance, and the private corridor to the room opened onto the lovely garden. You can open the doors and step outside. The chef clearly cares about making guests happy and was willing and able to make many adjustments for us, which we appreciated wholeheartedly. Eating in the private dining room feels special, but the main room with the chef was so interesting and fun that we may have preferred it. You can see how much love he puts into his work. Kamakura is amazing, with plenty to see in town and nearby. Cocon is a lovely treat of a stay, so tranquil that the only sounds were cicadas outside.

We stayed at Kamakura Cocon for the last night of our Japan trip and left completely satisfied. The beauty and serenity, incredible food, and service that went above and beyond all deserve A+. We came because we’d had two amazing nights at Sengokubara Cocon near Hakone. Over our three week trip, we stayed at several luxury properties in Japan, and the value at Cocoon was unmatched. Matsumiya and the team are dedicated to giving guests the best experience. Arigato gozaimasu!
