Gufo no Mori Kamifurano

Kyoko-san runs the place on her own and was always cheerful and there when we needed her. We liked chatting with her, and she gave us great tips for things to do in Furano. Moon-chan, the resident dog, came to greet us each morning and evening. There are chickens, a donkey, a goat, and even an owl on the property. The house has lovely views from every room, even the toilet. It may be the most thoughtfully designed place I’ve stayed in: a bathroom seat and grab bar that would help anyone feeling sore after a long day, a compact drying rack that holds a full load of laundry, and little black-cat decorations that are cute without clashing with the wooden farmhouse look. A memorable, feel-good stay from beginning to end 🥰🥰🥰

The owner made us feel so welcome, and we loved seeing the farm animals and the great views around the property. This stay was a highlight of our trip. We’ll definitely come back when we visit Hokkaido in another season.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, though you can hear through the walls. There’s a lovely little spot upstairs on the second floor to watch the sunrise. The shared facilities are new and clean: a well-equipped kitchen on the first floor, two bathrooms with bathtubs, two shower rooms, and two toilets there, plus two more toilets and sinks upstairs. The interior is surprisingly modern and high standard. It’s out among the farmland, though the nearest supermarket or town is only a 5-6 minute drive away. There are dogs as well as sheep, horses, chickens, and snowy owls and other owls you can see up close. It’s really interesting, though be ready for farm smells that may take a bit of getting used to. This is a good fit for people driving themselves who want to experience farm life.

You’ll need a car to get here, and it’s best to stock up on food at supermarkets or convenience stores. The place feels warm and welcoming, and there’s a horse and a donkey on site. Even with a bunk bed and a single bed, our room was surprisingly roomy. I only wish we’d stayed longer.
