Ryokan Dangoya

The landlady contacted Oiwa Nissekiji Temple early in the morning and opened it for me, and I was grateful for the complimentary coffee and lunch box, both of which were delicious. I stayed on my own without meals, arriving after dark in the rain. The building had a calming feel, with a mysterious atmosphere that moved me. There was a washlet in the toilet, too. This was the first power spot I'd seen since Mt. Koya, and I'd recommend it to everyone.

The lunch service was lovely, and I'd happily come back. We went after waterfall training at Nissekiji Temple, hoping to try the fresh somen, and luckily it was a summer weekday, when they serve it. We both chose the mountain vegetable set meal. The fresh noodles have a chewy texture that's really addictive, quite different from Kinryu's regular somen. I recommend trying both. The preserved mountain vegetables they serve in summer were delicious, thanks to the way they were prepared and seasoned. I'd love to try freshly picked spring mountain vegetables next time.

I ordered the tasting set to compare dried somen with the fresh kind. They were clearly different, even though they were similar, and both were delicious. The fresh somen came with a lighter broth, while the dried somen's broth was thicker. I drank every bit of both. I'll definitely come back.

This shop is halfway up the stairs to Nissekiji Temple, and I came specifically to try the fresh somen, which you can only get here. It seems to be seasonal, so try it while it's available. I think it's worth having at least once.
