The shared dorm was noisy because of other guests, which is to be expected in that kind of setup. Still, the location is excellent, close to the city hub and Korinbo bus stop, so getting around was easy. I liked the signature open kitchen, especially as a WFA-er. I could have a healthy breakfast in the sun or try making a fusion version of Jibuni after work. The bedding at Eight Point Inn Kanazawa also smelled fresh, like it had been sun-dried, which stood out in winter when many indoor places in Japan often carry a lingering cooked-food smell.

The common room looked like a nice place to spend time, but it was empty most of my stay. The place was spotless, and staff were always around when I had a question. They call the sleeping spaces “cabins,” a walk-in take on the capsule you see in many Japanese hotels. It’s more comfortable and convenient in some ways, but there’s no ceiling, a bit like an office cubicle. You can hear the other cabins somewhat, and the lights stay on all night, so bring a sleep mask.

The beds were very comfortable, and the place was clean and good value. It’s centrally located in Kanazawa, near plenty of tourist sights, with an easy bus ride to the station. My cabin was right by the door, so other guests disturbed me quite a bit. I also would have liked a little more space beside the bed, even if that meant smaller beds. It seemed like outsiders could get into the rooms without much trouble, which would worry me anywhere outside Japan.

The room was spacious, the bathroom clean, and the stay very comfortable. I could hear someone snoring next door a little, but it wasn’t loud enough to stop me sleeping well.

Avoid this place if you can, run! The dorm lights stay on all night, even though people are supposed to sleep there. And why are there cameras everywhere, even in spots where they could film inside your “room” and watch you sleep? I’ve had a better night in rooms with hair on the bed.
