HOTEL AMANEK Kanazawa

There weren’t any convenience stores nearby, though the hotel wasn’t far from the train station. We stayed two nights after arriving in Takayama late last month. The place felt quite modern, our room was a good size, and the bathroom was nice. The bed was very good and comfortable, and the staff were kind and helpful. Afternoon welcome drinks included coffee, tea, and soft drinks. In the evening they even served Danko. I also liked the top-floor onsen, especially the thermal pool available to both male and female guests. It’s a very nice place to stay.

The onsen was a favorite, a warm shower and nearly hot water felt great after a long day. The room was clean and the whole stay went smoothly. The view was nice, the location convenient, and the beds were big. I also liked having a gym for yoga before a long walk, though it’s small and gets packed after 8 AM. The cute teapot was a nice little touch.

The breakfast buffet was the best we had on our trip, and the location was very good. Our room was spacious, the staff friendly, the free drinks were welcome, and the washing machines worked perfectly. I was disappointed that the room didn’t come with basics like Q-tips, water, or paper towels. Staff will give them to you free if you ask, but every other hotel had provided them. There are also two drink vending machines. The onsen felt small, and there wasn’t cold water to cool off with afterward. To get water from the dispenser, you have to leave the dressing room, which is annoying. Bring your own if you want several rounds with water breaks. My towel and bedsheets both had brown spots. They replaced the towels, but still. Massages were crazy expensive compared with others.

We’ve enjoyed the community bath, spa massages, and the free sake tasting and beers that came with our online booking. The location works well for us, with several main sights within walking distance. My husband and I are having a really good three-night stay. The room is large and laid out well, and the staff have been very helpful. We’ll definitely come back.
