What made the stay especially memorable was the thoughtful, genuine service at every turn. The room had lovely design, a calm feel, and classic Japanese charm. I also loved unwinding in the Japanese-style bath with its ofuro. That soak really reset my mood. The ryokan was stunning and wonderfully serene.

The room was quiet, though there was a little hallway noise from other guests. It wasn't a problem. The decor is dated but in good condition and well maintained. Staff were pleasant and helpful, and they provided tea at check-in. I stayed three nights in September 2025, travelling solo, without meals included. It was a small Ryoken room with a wardrobe, tatami matting, bedding on the mat, and a low table with one cushion. Bathrooms are shared and sento-style, as are the toilets and extra sinks. The main bus route is a short block away, and the main train station is about 15 minutes away depending on traffic. Buses run regularly everywhere. There are lots of places to eat and shop nearby, including the Samurai district. You can get around by bus or on foot, though heat or time may make walking harder. Tabelog and Google Maps can help find restaurants, with Google Maps offering more non-Japanese reviews. I booked directly at the same price as booking.com, which meant Murataya didn't have to pay the commission. In my view, the Japanese breakfast was very average and not worth the price compared with a Minshuku I stayed at in Ainokura. I'd still recommend this accommodation.

The owners are so kind and helpful, with good recommendations, and they speak English well if you're still a beginner in Japanese. The traditional breakfast was perfect, and the private bath was amazing. There are plenty of things to see nearby, including The Samourai District, The Kanazawa Castle, and The Temples after the Geisha District. Murataya Ryokan ICHIBAN !!! 🙏🏼 One of the best Ryokan in Kanazawa, highly recommend !!!

The location is excellent, within walking distance of almost all the major sights. Rooms are small, as you'd expect in a traditional-style hotel, and a lot of bags could make things tricky. The shower areas, though, are nice and spacious. The staff had a basic grasp of English and were very helpful. English ability isn't something you can take for granted in Japan. I couldn't keep using the dryer in the evening because the noise might bother other guests, so they helped me find another way to dry my clothes.

It's extremely quiet and definitely traditional, but this wasn't a good fit for my family. Rooms are small and low-tech, with very few outlets, about one per room. The toilets and showers are shared with other guests rather than being in the room. There aren't many modern amenities, and the wallpaper is peeling, though everything seemed clean enough. Breakfast was 1200 yen per person per day. It can feel calming with the right people.
