Ryokan Yamamuro

The location worked well for visiting the castle grounds and getting to other sights by tourist bus or local bus. I stayed in a spacious single room with a small entryway, handy for leaving raincoats and other wet things. The hotel is a beautiful old building and is clearly well cared for. There’s a large dining room with a microwave and fridge, plus shared bath and shower facilities. Bungo-san and his mother were wonderful hosts. After I booked through Booking.com, Bungo got in touch a few days before I arrived to ask if I needed anything.

The host was really helpful with tourist activities and had lots of great recommendations. Don’t miss trying the private bath. It made for a lovely, authentic stay, and we can’t recommend this place enough.

For an authentic ryokan stay, I’d highly recommend Ryokan Yamamuro. The room was beautiful, and Bungo-san and his mother were lovely hosts. Their hospitality was hard to match. Thank you, Bungo-san, for everything you did for us during our time in Kanazawa.

What stood out most was how much care and hard work Bungo and his mother put into running the ryokan. They were kind and helpful the whole time, helped my friend send his bags on to our next hotel in Kyoto, shared restaurant suggestions from a Google list, and helped us book dinner. My friend and I would absolutely stay again. Our room was huge, with a table, a sleeping area, another sitting room, and its own sink. There were more sinks and mirrors outside, and private bathrooms and showers on our floor. The beds were comfortable, with spare mattresses and pillows in the closet. Slippers, fresh towels, and yukatas were provided every day. There’s a 7-Eleven around the corner with a machi bike station for renting bikes to explore Kanazawa. I’d recommend this place to anyone after a lovely experience in the city.
