AKARIYA Home&Hostel

The weather was lousy while I was there, so I ended up spending more time inside. The hostel was cozy, though, and I felt comfortable. Communication was excellent, and being able to wait in the kitchen after checkout saved me from sitting at the station in the rain and made the rest of my journey easier. Really appreciated that. I had a great stay!

The place was spotless and had loads of amenities, even hair straighteners. It’s in a great spot, close to everything but on a quiet street, with nowhere more than a ten-minute walk away. The host and her mother were two of the best hosts we’ve had. She gave us fantastic recommendations and was there whenever we needed help, which was often 😂. They really made the stay. I’d stay here again if I came back and would recommend it to anyone.

The location was ideal, with the beach, grocery store, transit stops, and restaurants all about a 5-15 minute walk away. We were also tucked down a long driveway in a quiet neighborhood, so there wasn’t street noise. The old building shows a bit of wear, but that was mostly cosmetic. Sound carries about as much as you’d expect in an older house, though the other guests were considerate. Suzy was so kind and welcoming. The common living room and kitchen felt cozy, and she provided toast, jam, coffee, tea, fruit, and more. She even gave me a ride to the train station when she was heading out. The hostel was well equipped, and I stayed four nights in December. My room was clean and comfortable. I was especially glad to have a ceiling light with adjustable brightness and color temperature, and Suzy arranged a small table and chair for me. The shower was clean and had good pressure, and there was a free washing machine too. I had a very comfortable stay and would happily return.

Akisan and Suzy are funny and so nice. My friends and I spent two nights there, and we had a happy dinner together in the lovely living room. Akariya gave us such a warm welcome. Karatsu felt like an oasis, and I’m already missing the place. ^_^
