We found a room at the last minute after everywhere else had filled up. It’s a small, basic hotel over two floors, with no elevator. The buffet selection is good for both meals, though the food itself is just okay, neither great nor bad. There’s a play area in the dining room for small kids, which they loved, and it let my husband and me enjoy a long, relaxed meal. The onsen was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it costs less than most hotels nearby.
6/10
There’s plenty of parking, the service is friendly, and filtered drinking water comes straight from a tap in the room, which is really nice. The room was comfortable enough, but it wasn’t non-smoking and had a pretty unpleasant smell. That seems sort of normal for Japan. I’d give it four stars if there were more non-smoking rooms. The dining room was excellent, and the breakfast and dinner buffets were both great.
10/10
Dinner and breakfast are well worth recommending. The building and room are old, but that adds to the authentic feel. The location is just right, away from busy Karuizawa Station, and good value for the money.

A nice place that feels like good value for the price.
