Hojo Machi Hostel

We were very happy with our night in Kasai City, and the location made it easy to walk to Aeon for everything we needed. My husband and I came with our two preschool children and stayed from January 31st to February 1st. The kids loved the bunk beds, and I was very pleased with the service. I also liked how the property brings together older elements with a fresh, clean feel, especially since it was made using unused real estate. Thanks for a lovely stay for the whole family.

The owner was so kind and polite, and had the sort of welcoming vibe that made me wish I’d asked him more about Kasai. I chose this inn because I needed to stay in Kasai City to deal with a tragic event. The room reminded me of my parents’ home, modernized, and also brought back memories of my grandmother’s old house in Kasai. It felt both familiar and cutting-edge, and I think seniors would appreciate it too. The fluffy futon and warm kotatsu made for a comfortable night. I loved the cypress bath scent, and the big shower head was easy to use, a nice mix of traditional and modern. The kitchen is roomy and has basic dishes. With ingredients and seasonings from the nearby Aeon Mall, dinner is no problem, though I’d need a rice cooker, so packaged rice works for me. Smokers can use the balcony. It was cold, but sitting in the cute chairs with hot coffee was lovely. The toilet and shower are shared; that didn’t bother me since I usually stay in internet cafes. They were newer and cleaner than in a typical hotel, so I was comfortable. A really great inn, and I’d stay again if I come back to Kasai.

The first-floor WiFi was quite weak and often slow, which made it hard to get work done. I can’t speak for the rooms upstairs, but the connection down here needs improvement. The cypress-surrounded coworking space was relaxing, and the all-you-can-drink beverages made it easy to stay for a while. I’d keep coming back if the WiFi were stronger. Monthly membership pricing could also make coworking more accessible to students. I’d used the space before without staying overnight.

The interior made the strongest impression on me. With the wood and warm-colored lighting, it felt cozy and easy to spend time in that laid-back, current “chill” sort of way. I also liked that this works as an experiential guesthouse, not just somewhere to sleep. The owner is from Kasai City and knows the area well, and there’s a restaurant run by high school students across the street. It gives you a feel for the area.
