The historic part of Sawara is about a 30-minute walk away, and you can borrow a bicycle from reception if you’d rather ride. This is a simple business hotel, with compact rooms, comfortable beds, and modern bathrooms. There’s also a traditional Japanese bath on the reception floor, and they serve a good Japanese breakfast in the morning.

The set breakfast was satisfying for me: omelet, sausages, natto, miso soup and a few other small sides, with bread and milk too. If you order, you can also get free morning curry. The dining room food is quite tasty, and the hotel offers good value despite being an older Showa-era building. It’s a short distance from the station, and there’s a large public bath, though it feels a little small. The marble details make it feel luxurious. The room is simple and a bit cramped, with a small desk. There’s no outlet at the desk, but the hotel provides an extension cord to bring power closer. There isn’t an outlet beside the bed either, which was disappointing. The in-room bath is tiny, so I’d use it just to shower. If someone is available, the hotel can provide a ride to or from the station, so check with them.
