Mikazuki Inn

Right in front of Katsuura Station, this hotel seems suitable for business trips and families. The rooms look renovated and were very clean. My one complaint was that the hot water kept fluctuating when I showered in the evening. Since I was wearing leather shoes, I also would have liked disposable shoe wipes like many chain business hotels provide. The seafood izakaya on the building’s first floor stays open until 10pm, so you can eat dinner there. In the morning, the hotel offers a limited amount of free bread.

I came to town for a trip to Katsuura Tokyu Golf Course. This is an unusual business hotel for the area, and it seems popular enough to fill up quickly. It’s a very convenient spot: about a 30-second walk from Katsuura Station, roughly five minutes from the morning market, and around 100 meters from a Daily Yamazaki. The rooms are very spacious, though not especially practical for one person. There’s no breakfast service, but the free bread rolls and coffee are a nice touch.

We came for a family New Year’s gathering, but almost everything I wanted for lunch was out of stock. Katsuura is known for fish, especially bonito, so that was disappointing. Was the market closed, or was there simply no stock? Maybe I should avoid coming over the New Year holidays.

We stayed here on a trip to Katsuura. Check-in was supposed to be by 10pm, and we were leaving at night and couldn’t make it in time. We called, and since we’d prepaid, they accommodated us and check-in went smoothly. The twin room was large. I’ve only stayed in business hotels, so it was a treat to have so much space again. I was also glad to sit on tatami, something I haven’t done in a while. They offered free rolls and coffee in the morning, which we appreciated. I’d definitely stay again if I return to Katsuura.
