During firefly season we reserved dinner two days ahead. They prepared a full-course vegan meal for me and a regular omnivore dinner for my partner. The staff were friendly and helpful. At 8 p.m., they took us on a five-minute walk through the dark to a viewing spot by the river. I don't remember ever seeing so many fireflies. It was delightful.

The breakfast was a satisfying Japanese set meal with lots of dishes, including steamed food and agedashi tofu. I could choose white rice or rice porridge. The inn is beside the Niugawa River and attached to Kurotaki no Yu hot spring, in a beautiful natural area I'd like to see in another season. My spacious second-floor Japanese-style room had its own bathroom and toilet. For bathing, I could use the inn's indoor bath as well as Kurotaki no Yu. Day visitors can bathe at Kurotaki no Yu until 8:00 PM; after that, it's for overnight guests only, so I had the baths to myself. The Komeiseki hot spring water felt very pleasant. I stayed here during a trip to Nara.

The location is deep in the mountains, so having a car is best. It's a stay for enjoying the mountain nature, hot springs, and food, and I think children would have a lot of fun surrounded by nature in summer. The building is old, but the clean lobby, rooms, and restrooms made that easy to forget. Both meals were delicious and filling, and the warm bath wasn't crowded, so I could enjoy the hot springs fully. What stood out most was the staff's hospitality and thoughtfulness. As someone who also lives in Nara, I felt proud. Visitors from other prefectures can see that Nara is more than just deer. Thanks to the young male staff member who kept waving goodbye in the rain until our car was out of sight.

We'd been looking forward to the meal on this family trip, but the dishes were dirty, which was awful. The bathroom hair dryer was held together with tape and seemed broken. I wish they'd at least replaced it. It had been a while since our last family trip, and this stay was disappointing. I won't use this hotel again.

The inn left a very good impression. Check-in and the staff were kind, and breakfast was very good too. Getting around is quite inconvenient since it's in the countryside. It's also hard to get to Tenkawa Benzaiten, with almost no buses. The inn is about a 15-minute walk from the Kurotaki Information Center, and it only provides one shuttle service per day.
