The garden was lovely even in February, before the maples had leaves or the cherry trees were blooming, and our garden view was magical at night and beautiful in daylight. We also loved dressing in yukata and sleeping and eating in a tatami room with sliding doors and windows. The stay had so many highlights: an 11-course feast of fresh, local, seasonal food, the softly lit stone onsen bath, and the super friendly staff in traditional Japanese outfits. Totally agree with the other positive reviews, this is an OMG place to stay. If you're anywhere near Osaka, you have to try it.

After our red-eye flights, Nantenen has become our place to decompress before starting a trip. We've stayed three times in different seasons and had a consistent experience each visit. It feels authentic and not overly touristy, which is just what we want in a quiet retreat. The building is a regional cultural property, beautifully cared for, and has a real sense of history and quiet elegance. There's a lovely private garden around it, too. The food and service have been amazing, and every meal has been a highlight. We keep recommending Nantenen Inn & Ryokan and plan to come back again. A genuine hidden gem.

Yukiko Yamasaki made us feel at home from the moment we arrived, and Garry's wonderful stories and insights added so much meaning to our journey. We're leaving Nanten Ryokan with full hearts and beautiful memories. The peaceful rooms, amazing food, and calm atmosphere made for an unforgettable stay. It feels deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, with an authentic atmosphere. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a genuine and meaningful ryokan experience.

The food was phenomenal. I'm full just thinking about it, and there wasn't one thing I didn't love. Everyone on staff was so kind and thoughtful, and the coziness and warmth stayed with me even after we left. Honestly, this was the highlight of my trip and the most authentic experience I had. Our room was just the right size, spotless despite the building's history, and tucked away on the second floor with a beautiful view of the greenery. I'll keep the memories close.

It's easy to reach by train from Osaka, Kyoto, Kansai airport, or Koyasan, and the setting is beautiful, with a stroll garden and a lovely spa. Staff are friendly and speak English, and the seasonal cuisine is amazing. This historic inn serves traditional ryokan meals and can prepare vegan kaiseki and breakfast for overnight stays, or a vegan lunch for day visitors if ordered ahead. Vegan options can be hard to find at traditional inns or guesthouses, so this place is a gem. Highly recommended.
