Tsuki No Yado Kaguya

There was a musty smell as soon as we entered Room 101, and the air conditioner smelled strange too. I looked at its filter because I was concerned. It seemed like perfume was being used to cover up the odor. Within five minutes of arriving, I had an asthma attack and couldn’t stop coughing, even though I’d been fine before. My symptoms cleared up as soon as we left. We paid 13,000 yen, but checked out after 30 minutes and moved to another hotel. We didn’t file a complaint because we felt we should have researched more beforehand, but we’ll never stay here again. It was probably house dust or mold that caused it. No wonder I felt sick.

Paying, checking in, and checking out without meeting staff is handy. But if you’re not comfortable using a tablet, the one at the entrance could be hard to figure out. This used to be a luxurious love hotel for local visitors, but at some point it shifted toward tourists coming to nearby Kawagoe. I think that was a good move, though the place isn’t close enough to Kawagoe for me to recommend it.

I used the place as a kind of “business hotel drinking spot.” You really need a car, since it’s far from the nearest station, or there isn’t one nearby at all. The rooms are in separate buildings, and the property used to be a love hotel. There’s no meal service, so you’re in trouble unless you bring food with you ahead of time. Handaya, a major Tohoku set meal chain, is nearby and opens at 5am, so I’d recommend it for breakfast. The room was clean and had all the amenities, and the water server was a nice extra.

It’s a very relaxing hotel/inn, and I’d recommend it if you like lots of open space. The road out front is narrow, so very large vehicles may have trouble getting through. Thanks very much, I’ll definitely come back.
