We booked Voketto through AirBnB, but I missed the 14-day review window and couldn't leave without writing one here. If you want a truly local stay, come to Kawane. We arrived in the evening and Sho-san welcomed us warmly. He was responsive and communicative throughout. The house is shared, which had me a little worried about noise, but the only other guests were a Japanese couple in a separate room outside the main house, so it was never a problem. We pre-ordered Sho's tapas dinner and it was the best meal of our Japan trip. He served a range of dishes made with fresh local ingredients, plus slices of venison, and the all-you-can-drink bancha was a lovely extra. Sho enjoys talking with guests and hearing about their adventures, and you can tell he loves hosting. We had worried about the winter cold, but slept through the night under the blankets he had prepared in our tatami room. I also wanted to learn about tea in Shizuoka and visit a farm and factory, but nothing was open in winter over the New Year's weekend. Sho arranged a meeting with a local tea producer he knew, and we had a great time. I'm really grateful. We'll surely return, maybe for longer than one night, since there's more to see and more tea farms to visit.

I've visited many countries and cities, but Sho's hospitality and this place are the best I've experienced so far. The accommodation is exceptional, and Sho goes out of his way for his guests. Aobe and the surrounding area have natural hidden gems that would be a shame to miss. If you're visiting Japan and Shizuoka prefecture, please consider coming and supporting the community.

We stayed just one night during a road trip and were welcomed by a kind, accommodating host who speaks excellent English. The restored traditional Japanese house is cozy and homey, and our Japanese-style room was large and spacious. You can tell the host will look after you. Dinner was lovely, with locally made tea, and afterward we had a good conversation. He told us about his journey around the world and shared more about Japanese language and culture. He also gave us helpful suggestions for the next part of our trip. The scenic area has good hiking and other day trip options, so Voketto would work well for a longer stay too. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling nearby.

A basic but really cozy, homely stay tucked into the forest. The stars were the best we've seen. Sho-san was wonderful and so kind to us, and my 5 year old son had a great time chatting with him. The meals felt home cooked, and I especially loved the rice. Thanks for having us, we had a wonderful time.

I'm very late writing this, since we travelled in October 2024, but Sho took such good care of us. The guest house is traditional, functional, and comfortable, with a large room. His homemade meal was delightful, and his hospitality was wonderful. My 10 yr old daughter got sick during the 1 night we were there after a busy trip had worn her out. Sho arranged an extra night for us, then went to the grocery store without being asked and paid out of his own pocket for things to help her feel better. The following night he took us to the bus stop and waited until we were safely on our way. He also recommended an Onsen nearby, drove us there, and picked us up. That was one of the highlights of our trip. Five-star service and a beautiful home.
