The treatment was enjoyable and did the job, though it wasn’t anything mind-blowing. I’d come back for a few hours of unwinding and switching off. The spa itself is lovely, calm and beautiful, and walking in made me feel more relaxed right away. Everything was clean and organized, and the staff were polite and professional without overdoing it. It’s not cheap, but you’re paying for the setting and the whole experience.

My son and I stopped by Aman Tokyo to check it out for a future family trip. We’re staying somewhere else on this visit, but thought we might have drinks and appetizers in the Aman Lounge in the lobby. While we waited to be seated, an employee asked if he could help. When I said we were after drinks and snacks, he asked for our room number. I explained that we were just visiting, and he said the lounge was only for hotel guests. That didn’t match the website, which says guests and non-guests can visit, subject to availability. The lounge was nearly empty, but he didn’t mention availability at all. He firmly and unfriendly told us it was only for people staying at the hotel. If that’s the policy, the website should be updated. Needless to say, I won’t plan to stay there in the future. Thank you.

The pyjamas were the one small detail that seemed below the usual Aman standard, in either their absence or quality. Otherwise, everything felt remarkable, from the architecture and calm, elegant atmosphere to the attention to detail. The service was impeccable, with a lovely balance of warmth and professionalism. One of the most impressive places I’ve stayed in Tokyo.

Aman Tokyo brings together a peaceful, resort-like Aman feel and modern Tokyo style. The Japanese-inspired design, sweeping city views, spacious quiet rooms and impeccable service all contribute to a refined, calm stay. It’s a luxurious central option for travelers who want privacy and a polished experience.

The service is where Aman Tokyo really stood out for me. Staff looked for ways to go above and beyond, with thoughtful gifts and help. When I asked about getting to the airport for my night flight, the front desk extended my checkout by half a day. Before I arrived, they’d asked about my flight into Tokyo, and my room was ready when I got there in the morning, ahead of the normal check-in time. The concierge was always available, responded quickly and handled every request perfectly. The Lounge food and drinks were good and, for a hotel, comparably priced, meaning expensive. Musashi was a fantastic omakase experience, priced similarly to other high-end omakase in Japan. The spa and boutique staff were patient and accommodating while I shopped for gifts, answered my questions and offered good suggestions. The spa treatments I booked were among the best I’ve had anywhere. Breakfast was more limited than a chain hotel buffet, but the menu was broad enough for me, and they handled customization requests well. That’s the value for me, though it won’t apply to everyone. If you’re willing to pay a premium for world-class service, this is one of the best hotels in Japan. If the room matters most, the value for money is better at many other places, including its sister hotel Janu. I stayed for a week in the middle of December, and I’ve gone back and forth about reviewing it because Aman Tokyo plays in a different league from an average hotel. I’m someone for whom staying at an Aman would be financially irresponsible, so that’s where I’m coming from. The short version: you’re paying for the service, not the hotel itself. If that’s how you want to spend your money, it’s a 10/5. I’d booked a Tokyo Suite through a luxury travel advisor and got upgraded to a Garden View Suite. Some perks, including the upgrade, may have come from booking that way, though I can’t know for sure. I wish Google let me give it 4.5 stars, but I rounded down to four, mainly because of the room. For the top price, I expected more. It was very nice, extremely spacious, beautifully designed and had great features, including heated bathroom floors, one of the better beds in Japan and excellent blackout curtains. But some fixtures, like the bathroom and room control console, felt old. It’s an unfair comparison with a new hotel, but the cheaper sister hotel Janu felt more modern while offering the same comfort and space. Housekeeping kept the snacks and minibar stocked, and I especially liked the juice bottles. Still, some things, like alcoholic drinks, cost extra. I’ve stayed at several hotels in Japan costing $150-$200 a night where drinks were included. Sure, those were generic beers, but at Aman’s prices, being charged for a bottle of beer felt strange to me.
