Nanadaru Onsen Hotel

A lovely hotel with super friendly staff. There were several private onsens, both indoor and outdoor, and they were all tattoo-friendly. It's also a great base for the waterfalls!

We got great value, with plentiful, delicious local food and a fantastic location for visiting the seven falls. After we checked out, they even let us leave our car there for free all day while we explored the area. The hotel has several different onsen rooms, which all become private baths after dinner, and the onsens are tattoo-friendly. A highlight was the private cave onsen about halfway up the seven falls, which guests can use. Bring a bathing suit for it.

The location is a big plus, close to the waterfalls and the outdoor wild onsen, and the price makes this good value. It's not as polished or as nice as some ryokans I've stayed in, and the older building and stairs made it feel more like a two-star place. Once inside the room, though, it was pretty much like the other ryokans we've visited. The food was incredible. Breakfast and dinner were both amazing, with lots of fresh fish. I also really liked the onsen, which stayed open quite late, though I can't remember if it was open 24 hours.

They stayed up for us when we checked in late, around 9:30-10pm, and the service was nice. The hotel is quite old and not really clean. It was still a nice experience, but it wasn't worth what we paid. There was no shower in our room, so we had to go to the onsen to shower. After a day using the onsen, our towels were completely wet. When we asked for a fresh one, they charged 300 yen to change a towel.
