Granbell hotel Tanuki, Sapporo

I picked this hotel for its spot near Tanukikoji Shopping Street, and it made exploring easy. The CTS Airport bus stop is also about a 500-meter walk away, which was handy. I stayed four nights in early October 2025, on the 11th floor, and had a nice city view. The indoor and outdoor onsen baths were a lovely way to unwind after sightseeing, and breakfast had a great selection. My room was cleaned after the second night. Cleaning is provided for stays longer than three nights; for fresh towels or rubbish removal, you can ask at reception. The front desk could have been a little more welcoming, though that may simply be the local communication style in northern Japan. I had a pleasant, comfortable stay and would recommend the hotel for its location and relaxing onsen.

The onsen is clean, modern, and such a relaxing place to spend time. We also appreciated how easy and convenient the laundry facilities were. Everything we needed was close by, too. This is our favourite hotel. The staff are always kind, friendly, and genuinely helpful. We’d happily come back, and highly recommend it.

The rooms and service were very good. The hotel is in a great tourist area just beside Tanuki Covered shopping street. There’s a covered route towards susukino, then you can go underground to Poletown, which leads to Odori Park or up to the Sapporo Station. At least twice, taxi drivers took us to the big Granbell Hotel on the other side of town, so show them the correct address.

The room was decent sized for a Japanese hotel, and the spot near shopping street sections 7 to 1 is okay for browsing local things. It’s crowded and very touristy, though, and not close to a station. Some taxis couldn’t find the hotel. Breakfast was the real letdown. It was the same food over four days, lukewarm or cold, and not tasty or appetizing. They didn’t always refill things on time, and breakfast ends at 9, which feels very early when checkout is at 11. Even five minutes late, they wouldn’t let people in. I saw them turn away a couple, so we won’t be back. The onsen also wasn’t hot enough, and it was too dark for children.
