Hotel Ikkeikaku

Breakfast was fantastic, a high-class set menu with lots of little extras. I especially liked the station where you shave your own katsuo. Delicious! The rooftop patio was another nice touch. After the onsen, we sat outside for over an hour, enjoying the cool night air. We stayed one night in summer 2025. The hotel looks very nice inside and out, and there's plenty of parking. A red line on one side of the building marks how high the tsunami floodwater reached when it hit the hotel. It's shockingly high. Check-in was simple, but neither entrance had a ramp down from the street to the first floor, so carrying heavy luggage up and down the steps was a pain. I felt for handicapped or older guests who might stay here. The air conditioner was out for about an hour in our room; after we called, they somehow fixed it, which was good. The beds were comfortable enough, but the futons were very hard even on tatami. The pillows were extremely thick, and I couldn't sleep comfortably with one, since I prefer a thinner pillow. The onsen was nice to have, and much better than using the shower or bath in the room, but it was very small and had no outdoor area. They asked guests not to open the windows, so it felt stuffy. There are several vending machines outside it, but no coffee milk, which left us all disappointed. It's a crime against humanity to have no coffee milk after an onsen dip! We'd stay again, but nobody wants to sleep on the floor, and we'd bring our own pillows. The hotel is somewhat in the middle of nowhere by the port processing area, so eating out means a long walk or a short drive.

The room was standard and the bed was comfortable. It felt like a hotel that had its heyday during the bubble economy, but it was clean, the staff were friendly, and the lobby drink bar was generous.

A nice, affordable room in a very convenient spot for a stay in Kesennuma. The onsen is pleasant and has a sauna, and breakfast was wonderful.

I stayed one night for work and found the room new, clean, and comfortable. The large public bath was a good way to unwind. The welcome drinks were generous, and having water in the room was helpful. It's very close to the Kesennuma fish market. Restaurants and convenience stores are a little farther off, though that seemed manageable since most guests probably arrive by car. Guests can also use the gym and golf simulator for free. I enjoyed practicing my golf swing.
